Jeremiah 6:16-8:7
The Lord gives Jeremiah words to say in the city gate to Judah of their disobedience and what will be their consequences. The people are chasing after things that are not of God and have brought detestable things into His house.
Psalm 78:1-31
This psalm recounts the journey and happenings of Israel. Today they were delivered and led into the desert. But before long they started complaining. God was angry with them but provided manna and meat anyways. After His provision, His anger still burned, so he killed the strongest and the young men.
Proverbs 24:26
"Whoever gives an honest answer kisses the lips."
Colossians 2:8-23
Paul is encouraging the people to live by nothing other than the freedom of Christ. There is no need to listen any longer to the rules of the flesh because Christ "canceled the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross." He goes on to say that the world may appear to have wisdom, "but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh." Do not be taken captive by those who are not Christ.
Latvia
Poorest EU nation, but also the fastest growing economy in the EU. There is a large and growing gap between rich and poor. The country has pagan roots, but has moved to Christianity. There was much persecution under Nazis and Communists. Spiritual apathy is now prevalent in society. Churches have unified against challenges to Biblical morality. Pray that they will continue to work together. Pray for the younger generation to experience personal faith and not follow in the non-religion footsteps before them.
