Today I prayed for St. Martin, St Pierre and Miquelon, and St. Vincent. These are all small islands spread across the world like the places I prayed for yesterday. Of the seven islands that I read about and prayed for, only one of them had an "Answers to Prayer" section in the reading. Already, only three days in, I feel so oblivious to the world around me, but I am gaining a global perspective. We, the church, must find a sense of urgency to go to the world.
Genesis 5-7
Methuselah lived 969 years! He was also Noah's grandfather. Noah was the one who built the ark as instructed by God to save his family and the creatures of the earth from the flood God was going to send to get rid of the corruption of people. Today when I read this story that seems so familiar to me, I could not stop thinking about the series Planet Earth that has come out fairly recently. I watch those movies in amazement at how vast a number and how varied are the creatures that live on this planet. What an experience to be in a really big boat with them all!
Matthew 3:7-4:11
John the Baptist is preparing the way for Jesus, and Jesus himself shows up to be baptized by John. What would I do if Jesus wanted me to do something like that? Oh, wait... He does call me to be involved in His ministry every day.
Psalm 3
verse 3- "But you, O Lord, are a shield about me. my glory, and the lifter of my head.
Proverbs 1:10-19
The world will try to entice us, but their destruction is only their own.
What a great day of the Lord this has been! At Sunday school this morning we heard from a servant who has spent the past five years of her life as a missionary in North Africa and Southeast Asia. She is young and single and is simply following after the Lord with her whole life. So much of what she said resonated with me. Then our pastor spoke about going where God sends us from Matthew chapter 14 when Peter walks on the water to Jesus. Jesus sent the disciples into the storm (literally) not to sink them, but to save them. After church I got to have lunch with two precious friends that I don't get to see often enough, but who will listen to me pour out my heart and get excited with me. It was great to hear what's going on with them as well. And very soon my house will be full of wonderful people gathering to fellowship and eat dinner. Chicken spaghetti tonight- mom's recipe! :)
